The LinKS project is a regional effort in Southern Africa aimed at raising awareness about how rural men and women use and manage biological diversity. It is exploring the linkages between the crucial issues of local knowledge systems, gender roles and relationships, food provision, and the conservation and management of agrobiodiversity. Managing agrobiodiversity in Rural Areas - this GTZ project supports efforts to implement the Convention on Biological Diversity, the FAO Global Plan of Action for the conservation and sustainable utilisation of plant genetic resources. The Convention on Biological Diversity was established at 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, where world leaders agreed on a comprehensive strategy for "sustainable development".
